Soup Sisters is a non-profit, charitable organization that facilitates soup making events & since 2009 has delivered 1.5 million servings of soup nationwide to families affected by family violence & youth transitioning from street culture into mainstream society. Soup Sisters has grown to operate in 25 Cities nationwide with over 40,000 participants!
A powerful message that says 'we care' is delivered to over 40 residential shelters in Canada through homemade delicious soup made with the finest ingredients. “A Hug in a Bowl” is the Soup Sisters slogan that says it all! Their mission is to provide support in a kind, generous & meaningful way while promoting civic engagement & building communities through a hands-on event that also provides awareness toward issues of domestic abuse & family violence.
The Organization is 100% volunteer driven at the event-level. Monthly, volunteers guide soup makers to deliver over 1,200 servings of fresh, homemade soup to women’s emergency & second-stage shelters as well as youth serving agencies throughout Alberta. Soup makers pay a registration fee to join a cooking event at a local professional kitchen under the guidance of a Chef facilitator. A speaker from the recipient shelter addresses soup- makers with an overview of the work they do & impacting value of the gift of soup.
Big Stir Corporate & Souper Kids youth events are extensions of the Soup Sisters monthly cooking events, developed specifically to cater to groups as a team building activity with a philanthropic focus. All events are social with warm camaraderie that culminates in a sit-down soup meal for all participants. Within a three-hour window, soup-makers provide a meaningful donation that often times translates into a life changing message of true support for the recipient.
In addition to this measurable outcome of nutrition, Soup Sisters also defrays the operating costs of regularly supported shelters by 18-20% annually with the huge volume of soup donation.
