Since its inception in 1983, the Ability Society has been providing programs and services to a wide population of children of various special needs including physical, developmental, sensory disabilities, community integration and mental health issues throughout the province of Alberta. In particular, the Ability Society has a world renowned approach to deal with the growing diagnosis of Autism in children and youth. The Ability Society is a pioneer and leader in Social Enterprise in Canada. For the last 20 years it has relied mainly on its earned revenue to support the operational expenses of its programming. Additional funds from grants or donations form a small but important part of its budget, providing funds for much needed equipment, supplies or capital purchases for programs. All programs are financially self-sustainable and do not rely on traditional fundraising.
